Luna Park was a major amusement park that operated in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn from 1903 to 1944, co-founded by Frederic Thompson and Elmer Dundy and known for innovations such as the "A Trip To The Moon" ride and its status as one of three iconic parks that defined Coney Island's early-twentieth-century amusement era. The park remained highly profitable through its early decades and was repeatedly expanded with new attractions before being destroyed by fire in 1944 and permanently closed.
